RF Design Engineer (mobile communication)

RF Design Engineer (Mobile Communication)

About Panura: Panura is pioneering a new era in telecommunications, deploying a LEO mega-constellation to establish a Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) that delivers secure, high-speed, and sovereign digital connectivity worldwide. In a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape, we’re strategically positioned in Munich – Europe’s aerospace hub – to lead the charge in securing future communication infrastructure. Our experienced founding team combines decades of aerospace and telecom expertise, and we’re now seeking ambitious pioneers ready to tackle challenging engineering problems and make an outsized impact on building resilient global connectivity.

Job Title: RF Design Engineer (Mobile Communication)

About the Role: We are seeking a talented RF Design Engineer with expertise in mobile communication systems to contribute to the development of next-generation 5G and 6G technologies as part of our LEO mega-constellation. This role involves the conceptual design, simulation, and rigorous testing of RF circuits and systems, with a strong emphasis on MIMO and beamforming concepts crucial for Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN). The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in electromagnetics and communication systems, coupled with practical experience in optimizing RF designs for performance and cost to deliver secure, high-speed global connectivity.

Location & Eligibility: This role requires you to be based in Munich. Applicants must also be authorized to work in Germany (e.g., an EU citizen or holding a valid work visa).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the conceptual design and comparative evaluation of MIMO and beamforming concepts for 5G and 6G communication systems integrated within a LEO satellite network.
  • Design and develop RF circuits, including filters, amplifiers, mixers, and oscillators, optimized for space and terrestrial links.
  • Perform comprehensive RF simulations and optimize designs for performance, cost, and manufacturability for satellite communication payloads.
  • Conduct rigorous testing and debugging of RF hardware using a variety of lab equipment (spectrum/network analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters).
  • Develop a detailed understanding of link budgets, signal propagation, and industry-relevant modulation schemes for satellite-to-ground and satellite-to-satellite communication.
  • Apply creative problem-solving skills to overcome technical challenges in complex 5G/6G communication systems in a space environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including antenna and systems engineers, to integrate RF designs into larger communication systems.
  • Contribute to the advancement of RF technologies, specifically for satellite RF systems and Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) applications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3-7 years of experience in RF design and simulation, with a focus on 5G and 6G concepts.
  • Strong foundation in electromagnetics and communication systems.
  • Proven experience with sound simulation skills and relevant software.
  • Expertise in RF circuit design (filters, amplifiers, mixers, oscillators).
  • Detailed understanding of MIMO and beamforming concepts.
  • Proficiency with RF lab equipment (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters).
  • Rigorous testing and debugging skills for complex RF systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in RF Engineering.
  • Experience with satellite RF systems and space-qualified hardware.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize designs for performance and cost-efficiency.
